Festival Season Part Deux (Hangout, Bayou Boogaloo, and more)

Jazzfest 2012 was nuts! Opening for Garage A Trois with Mike, opening for Primus with Tony Clifton and the Dead Kenny G’s (where I sang falsetto on God Bless America in front of thousands of people… who would’ve guessed?), jamming with Jonathan Batiste with Sasha’s band.

Now that I’ve had a bit of rest, its time to get back into it. I’m playing a few festivals this weekend, and I have a good bit of shows coming up before the Mike Dillon Summer tour. Here’s the breakdown:

Just returned from my first tour with the Mike Dillon Band (and first tour to the Midwest). It was amazing! Great band, great fun. We also cut a whole record to tape in 5 hours. It should be out by our summer tour, and will feature artwork by the lovely Kansas City artist Peregrine Honig. The record also features Peregrine’s amazing husband Mark Southerland on sax.

Anyway, enough about that. It’s the Festival Season! Here’s a complete (as of now) list of all of my gigs during Jazzfest.

Mike Dillon Midwest Tour! (also: French Quarter Fest with Sasha)

After a whirlwind March (apparently that’s the only way I function) I’m about to hit the road for my third tour this year. I recently joined the band of one of my personal musical heroes Mike Dillon. I’ll be playing guitar, bass, and synthesizer… YIKES!!! But its super exciting and I’m always up for a challenge. We’ll be playing 2 dates in Baton Rouge and Lafayette and then we’re heading west through Austin up through Iowa.

In addition, I’ll be performing at the 2012 French Quarter Fest with my dear friend and collaborator Sasha Masakowski! We’re performing Friday April 14th at 2pm at the Pavillion Stage in Waldenburg Park.

WTUL’s Sounds From the Basement 2012 (and more)

We’re halfway through March and its certainly been a productive one. I put on my very first Foburg showcase with very talented artists Helen Gillet, Sick’s Pack, and Vagabond Swing (check out www.livemusicnola.com for the recording, coming soon). We also performed with Austrian legends Attwenger (www.attwenger.at) who were in town on the way to SXSW.

This week, I have the honor of performing as part of WTUL New Orleans’s 2012 Marathon. Our track, “Dresden” is featured on the WTUL Sounds From the Basement 2012 compilation CD (alongside Japanther, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and more). Dresden is one of 4 preview tracks we’ve made available on our Facebook page (www.listn.to/cliffhines). If you want to hear it live, I’ll be performing it at the WTUL CD Release Party this Friday at the Circle Bar with my acoustic trio (feat. Sasha Masakowski and Max Moran).

Afterwards, I’m heading over to perform a midnight set at the Maison with Yojimbo (www.yojimbofunk.com). If you miss us that night, we’ll be performing again with Mike Dillon the following night at The Blue Nile!!!

Foburg Fest 2012! (With Vagabond Swing, Helen Gillet, and Sick’s Pack)

It sure is good to be back home in NOLA after our crazy Northeast run with Ciel Rouge and the Love Experiment. Now its time for the third annual Foburg Fest www.foburgneworleans.com/ . I’m putting on my very first showcase which will feature Vagabond Swing, Helen Gillet, and Sick’s Pack. In addition, I’ll be performing with SASHA MASAKOWSKI who has been away in China for the last 4 months! I miss her so dearly and its going to be great making music with her again. On Thursday night, make sure to tune in to WTUL (91.5) at 6pm and/or WWOZ (90.7) at 8pm as I will be talking about what he have in store for Saturday in addition to debuting some tunes off of the new record (one of which features Ms. Gillet). It’s going to be an exciting weekend with lots of great music so DON’T MISS OUT!

Northeast Tour! (with Ciel Rouge and the Love Experiment)

Happy Mardi Gras everyone! 2012 is off to a crazy start. For the second month in a row, I’m going on tour (this time to the OTHER side of the country). Just had a crazy show with Ciel Rouge and the Love Experiment opening up for hip hop legends Talib Kweli and Res, now I’m hitting the road with both bands. There’s gonna be some Hip-Hop, some R&B, and even some original tunes of my own. Here’s the rundown:

Idle Warship (Talib Kweli & Res) Feb 17 at Eiffel

The Mardi Gras season is upon us! Make sure you come out to one of THE biggest events of the season. I have the honor of opening for two modern day legends, rapper Talib Kweli and singer Res, in their new project Idle Warship. I’m going to be performing with Ciel Rouge (alongside Jasen Weaver and Andrew McGowan from my band) in addition to performing with The Love Experiment (brainchild of drummer Charles Burchell, who recently accompanied me on my Utah adventure). Also performing is local singer, Erika Flowers.

For those in the Northeast area, Ciel Rouge and The Love Experiment will be touring through Boston, MA and New Haven, CT at the end of the month. Stay tuned for more info!

Utah Tour

Cliff Hines Trio (Cliff Hines: guitar/vocals, Max Moran: bass/vocals, Charles Burchell: drums/synth) plus the Blue Trees (Megan Blue: vocals, Kentre Battles: guitar). We’re doing a week long residency out in Utah in which we’re performing at the Orion Music Festival as well as playing a few gigs in Park City during the Sundance Film Festival. The Blue Trees are no stranger to this area (they recently did a Utah tour over the summer) but I’ve never even set foot outside the airport. We need all the help we can get so please spread the word, invite any Utah friends (or Sundance goers) you have to the facebook event. Its gonna be a hell of a drive so wish us luck!
